New twist in ex-Goa minister ‘friend’ death case
Nadia, after allegedly consuming poison sent an SMS to her husband stating that she wanted to tell him something.

Panaji: In a fresh twist to Nadia Torrado death case allegedly involving former Goa minister Francisco Mickey Pacheco, the police on Monday told the court that the deceased after allegedly consuming poison had sent an SMS to her husband stating that she wanted to tell him something.

"Don't know whether you are avoiding my calls but I have to tell you something and I don't have too much time," an SMS sent from Nadia's mobile to her estranged husband Wilson Barretto reads.

Opposing the anticipatory bail petitions filed by Pacheco, former Tourism minister and his close aide Lyndon Monteiro, the prosecution pointed to the SMS which was sent on May 15 at 11.59 am.

Nadia's family members had said she had accidentally taken poison at around 9 am while the prosecution pointed out that the SMS was sent more than two hours after consuming poison.

Arguing against the anticipatory bail plea before Panaji Bench of Bombay High court, public prosecutor Carlose Fereira said circumstances of her death were suspicious.

The prosecution also said the maid servant, who was there in the house when Nadia allegedly consumed poison, is missing.

"We have not been able to trace the maid. She has mysteriously disappeared," Fereira said.
