New Delhi: Former BJP parliamentarian Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday broke his silence on his resignation from the Rajya Sabha saying it was because the party asked him to stay away from the Punjab elections.
"I quit from the Rajya Sabha because I was told not to work in Punjab and to stay away from the state," Sidhu said.
Sidhu said that after winning three elections (for the BJP) in Punjab he was shunted to the Rajya Sabha and asked to stay away from the state.
"For me no party is bigger than Punjab," the cricketer-turned-politician said.
Sidhu however refused to provide any clarity on whether he is joining the Aam Aadmi Party as is widely speculated.
"Wherever Punjab's interest is served, you will find me there," ," he replied to persistent questions from mediapersons.
Sidhu, who was a BJP Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar from 2004 till 2014, was asked to make way for senior leader Arun Jaitley to contest from his seat during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He was later nominated to the Rajya Sabha.
