Hyderbad: Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu's condition has worsened with his indefinite hunger strike entering seventh day on Thursday.
Naidu has been admitted to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad and doctors attending the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh say his condition has worsened.
Naidu has been fasting to demand better a compensation package for rain-affected farmers in the state.
On Monday, police forcibly took him to NIMS hospital and booked him for a case of attempt to suicide. But Naidu has remained resolute and is continuing with his agitation. The Congress government in the state has directed doctors to put him on fluid diet and take all measure to stabilise his condition.
Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh have warned that the government would be
held responsible if anything untoward happens to Naidu.
Leaders of TDP, CPI, CPM, Lok Satta, CPI (New Democracy) and RSP held an emergency meeting at the NTR Bhavan on Wednesday evening and announced they would organise a road blockade on all state and national highways in the state on Thursday to condemn the government's "indifference" to the farmers' misery.
BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu visited the TDP chief in on Wednesday night. Lok Satta President Jayaprakash Narayan also visited him and requested him to give up the fast.
