Mullaperiyar dam row: BJP march turns violent
The BJP state president blamed the Centre and state governments for failure to resolve the dam dispute.

Idukki: BJP workers who took out a march demanding urgent steps to resolve the Mullaperiyar dam dispute turned violent at Vallakkadvau near the dam area on Sunday.

Several party workers were injured as they clashed with police who sought to block them from marching by raising barricades, BJP leaders said.

Police, however, blamed the marchers for the situation.

BJP's youth wing Yuva Morcha organised the programme of symbolically digging a canal near the dam site to highlight the need for urgent steps to ensure safety for Kerala while assuring water to Tamil Nadu.

BJP state president V Muraleedharan, who addressed the marchers, blamed the Centre and state governments for failure to resolve the dam dispute between Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

He also took a dig at the state government over the Advocate General allegedly taking a position divergent from that of the state on the dam issue.
