New Delhi: Ahead of Narendra Modi government completing one year in power on May 26, the Congress has slammed it saying the government only excels in event management. In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath said, "In the last one year, we have seen a government and a Prime Minister who are world's best experts in event management. The government and the Prime Minister of event management, the government and Prime Minister of announcements and pronouncements."
Here is an excerpt from the interview:
CNN-IBN: I know you are in opposition, so your job is to oppose. But consistently the Modi government ministers have been saying that they had a very bad legacy handed over to them, for 10 years the UPA did nothing, they emptied their coffers, excessive corruption, perception battles and all of that they have been fighting.
Kamal Nath: Well legacy is an excuse. The fact is that Modi in his campaign and BJP in their campaign never say that they are going to have a legacy. They said from day one, we have to start this and in the last one year we have seen a government, a Prime Minister who are world's best experts in event management. The government and Prime Minister of event management, the government and Prime Minister of announcements and pronouncements. What is happening on the ground, nothing is happening on the ground. Whatever they cannot respond to, they respond by saying legacy issues.
CNN-IBN: Do you think you are being unfair to the Prime Minister himself after one year and you are turning him already to be a failure?
Kamal Nath: Well he is heading towards failure, we are cautioning him. One year is a long time - there is no employment creation. I want to know has their been any employment generation.
I want to know what has been delivered, can you tell me one thing.
CNN-IBN: Perception, it's also a lot about perception.
Kamal Nath: That is why in one year's time this perception is like a gas balloon. These people started recognizing this, it's very much so. Because i meet people and they are saying it seems to be an illusion, they have sold us a dream. A week ago, the Prime Minister announced a few scheme, bogus schemes - 'beema yojna' - giving it fancy names for what.
