In 2013, too, the AAP left a lasting imprint on the voters by convincing them to press their election symbol broom on the electronic voting machines.

New Delhi: They entered the political arena with a bang, left in a flutter but came back yet again to prove their might with a thunderous applause. In a never before thought off result, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 67 out of the 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly leaving both national parties - the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress - with hardly a place to hide.

This is not the first time that the AAP has come to power in Delhi. In 2013, too, the AAP left a lasting imprint on the voters by convincing them to press their election symbol broom on the electronic voting machines. They got the support and were successful in forming government in the national capital with party chief Arvind Kejriwal becoming the chief minister.

However, they got caught in their own web of protests and promises, and could not give their ideas a finishing touch resigning just after 49 days of coming to power leaving the national capital headless and arousing angry emotions from those who trusted their votes in them.

Leaving the past behind, the voters of Delhi have yet again bestowed their faith on AAP and brought them back to the assembly with nearly a 'full house'. With a massive mandate here are a few things that Kejriwal's team needs to remember as it embarks on its journey in Delhi.

1) No more dharnas. Kejriwal is the CM and must find solutions

Voicing an opposition is everyone's right. One is free to have differing opinions. However, one's responsibility increases when he or she is the chief minister of a state. As Kejriwal gets ready to take up the job, Delhi hopes that he will be able to find solutions this time around. Instead of holding protests, the big hope is that he fulfils his election promises.

Unlike last time, AAP must not block roads for protests. Surely, they have realised from their past that protests are not enough to keep one in power. There are enough people to protest and raise questions, what Delhi needs now is a person who can rule.

2) Follow the law and rules, try and amend them and not reject them outright

If the ones at the top do not follow rules, how can anyone expect the people at the bottom of the hierarchy to abide by them. Delhi has trusted Kejriwal with a massive mandate. He must use the power judiciously and work for the promises he made.

3) Maintain dignity of the CM's post

A chief minister is the head of the state, so maintain the sanctity of the post. Accept the security, bungalow and services that are on offer for the chief minister. These are not just privileges of the CM but also at times essential for your safety. Kejriwal can remain in touch with the common man even when he is availing of these rights.

4) Not be arrogant of the massive mandate

With power comes responsibility. In an unprecedented victory, Kejriwal is the lord of all he surveys and has a thunderous verdict. He must keep the wishes of voters and common man in mind when he takes decisions. Delhi is counting on him.
