Mayawati 'satisfied' with BSP's performance polls
The UP Chief Minister also admitted she expected BSP to win more seats.

Lucknow: Admitting she had expected the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to win more seats, party president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said on Monday she was quite satisfied with the results of the assembly elections in five states.

“I am satisfied with the performance of our party in various state assembly polls,” Mayawati told a hurriedly called press conference in Lucknow on Monday evening.

“Except for Mizoram, we have gained in each of the four states - Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Delhi - where not only our vote share but even the tally of seats has gone up,” she claimed.

According to her, in Rajasthan where the BSP has won six seats compared to two in 2003, the party's vote percentage has risen from 3.9 to 8.

“In Madhya Pradesh, where we had polled only 7.2 per cent votes with two seats in 2003, our voting percentage has risen to 11 with seven seats in hand,” she pointed out.

“Likewise, in Delhi we have now won two seats with a score of 12 per cent votes as against 5.7 per cent and no seat in 2003,” she said.

Mayawati maintained, “Even though the party's tally has not risen beyond two seats, the party has gained in terms of vote share, which rose from 4.4 per cent to 6.5 per cent this time.”

Admitting that she did expect some more seats in these states, Mayawati accused the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “confusing the voter with their dirty tactics".

However, claiming she had no regrets, the BSP chief maintained: “There were several seats where our nominees lost only with a slender margin, so that clearly shows our potential.”
