Kolkata: Maoists found out a very different way to express their defiance here in Bengal on Friday evening. They took out posters calling for observation of the 38th death anniversary of the very well known Naxal leader of yesteryears, Charu Majumder, in none other than the high security gate of Raj Bhavan at the heart of the city.
The poster, which said 'Charu Majumder zindabad', was spotted next to the south gate of Raj Bhavan, barely half a kilometre from the seat of power the Writers Building and city police headquarters at Lalbazar. A senior police officer said the poster, which was bearing the name of CPI (Maoists), was seen on the wall of the gate towards the Akashvani side and was pulled down by security personnel.
A similar poster also came up on a gate of Calcutta Medical College Hospital in central Kolkata and not very far from Lalbazar but that too was taken off by patrolling policemen, the officer said.
"The poster came up on Gate No 7 of the premier hospital," the official said. The Maoists and some of their frontal organisations have called "martyrs' week" in Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand and West Bengal from July 28 to August 3 in memory of Majumder, the founder of Naxalite movement and who died in police custody on July 28 in 1972.
