New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party's big win in Haryana and an impressive showing in Maharashtra have confirmed that 'Narendra Modi wave' is still blowing strong across India. It has also proved that Modi is the real Big Boss and Amit Shah's poll strategies still yield big, handsome results.
The outcome of these two states has cemented the position of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his close confidante and BJP national president Amit Shah. Together they now control every aspect of the government and party with absolute authority.
Even some disgruntled leaders in the BJP who are jealous of these two will now have to accept the leadership of Modi and Shah. These results have come as a big Deepavali gift to both.
According to some political analysts, it is the personal victory of Narendra Modi. The elections were dubbed an 'acid test' for Modi's leadership. He has successfully taken the acid test and emerged victorious.
Hereafter, Modi can unleash bigger, better economic and administrative reforms to deliver on his Lok Sabha election promises. At the same time, Amit Shah can also consolidate his power within the party and put a full stop to any voice of dissent.
Modi himself led the BJP campaign across Haryana and Maharashtra. During his election campaigns, he promised a clean and efficient government. He took on the alleged nexus between the Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in connection with huge land deals.
The BJP government in Haryana which is likely to take charge before Deepavali will have to act on it and probe the allegations to keep their word to the people. Will they act? The party insiders say that they will certainly act.
Coming to power in Haryana on its own is a huge thing for the BJP. It will definitely try to build the organisation in that state and may even go for a non-Jat chief minister to keep its vote bank intact.
In Maharashtra, the BJP has not reached the halfway mark. But, it has won 122 seats. Amit Shah has clearly stated that they will go back to the Shiv Sena to form a strong government and deliver on their poll promises. The Shiv Sena with just 61 seats may get a few more ministerial slots in Modi's Cabinet in New Delhi and the post of deputy chief minister in Maharashtra.
Shiv Sena which ran a vicious campaign against the BJP now does not have much bargaining power. The NCP led by Sharad Pawar is desperate to back the BJP in Maharashtra and the BJP will certainly use it to tame the Shiv Sena.
Since Maharashtra BJP does not have any big leader, Modi and Shah will decide the next chief minister. For the first time, the BJP high command has become very powerful like the previous Congress high command. Whatever Modi and Shah decide will happen and they wield enormous clout.
Modi has now emerged as the strongest BJP leader since its inception in 1980. Under him, the Congress has been reduced to double digits in the Lok Sabha and has lost two states. Karnataka is the only major and important state, where the Congress is still in power.
The impact of Maharashtra and Haryana results will be felt even in Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir, which are going to Assembly polls in the next two months.
Modi's victory march which started with his spectacular win in the Lok Sabha is likely to continue for some more time. In the meantime, he can focus on administration and reforms.
His big win is a warning to the opposition parties as well as his own detractors in the 'parivar'. Like it or not, they have no other option and will have to live with it and accept his mass appeal.
Modi-Shah Partnership has completed the first innings without losing any wickets.
