Mumbai: Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to finalise its deal with Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, the party will stake claim to form government in the state on Tuesday evening.

BJP, the single largest party in state with 134 MLAs will meet Governor C Vidyasagar at 6:30 pm in the evening and stake claim to form government.

The party is also yet to decide on its chief minister. A meeting of the party's legislators is underway in Mumbai to elect its leader. Maharashtra BJP in-charge Rajiv Pratap Rudy told CNN-IBN that the decision on CM will be taken by consensus. Party observers Rajnath Singh and JP Nadda too will attend the meet.

While Devendra Fadnavis, BJP's Maharashtra chief remains the front-runner in the race, names of senior leaders like Eknath Khadse and Nitin Gadkari too are doing the rounds.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena has forwarded a proposal to the BJP asking for assurance on portfolios before extending any support. Sena is eyeing the Public Works Department and Revenue ministries.
