Ahmedabad: In order to reach out to the Muslim community, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday attended a conclave organised by its business representatives as he called for creating a healthy society by bringing all groups together and adopting a growth model that ensures equality.
The three-day conclave, "Ummat Business", is being held for the first time here on the banks of Sabarmati River. Close to 50 exhibitors have set up stalls showcasing their products at the event, organised by Muslim businessmen, whose theme is "Harmony in business - Lets grow together".
Modi said, "A Gujarati Muslim boy holds the world record for highest yield per hectare of potato. We have managed to bring peace and harmony in past decade. Security, equality, prosperity is our mantra. Muslim women are great entrepreneur. They should get a chance to show their talent. Why should Muslim women not be part of Gujarat growth journey?"
Modi has been well aware that Hindutva image is his biggest USP and has now been trying to position himself as an inclusive leader. He wanted to soothen ruffled feathers as he did not want consolidation of minority votes in favour of one party in key states like Uttar Pradesh. He was also aware that post-polls, he might need support from parties like Trinamool Congress, who have a solid support base amongst minorities.
