Kolkata: Left supporters in Kolkata clashed with Police on Thursday. The rally was headed for Kolkata Police headquarters and the supporters clashed when they were stopped about a kilometre away from the police station.
The programme was organised to protest against the state government's attempt to stifle the voice of democracy of the people of the city. The Left Front is also demanding immediate withdrawal of more than 300 false cases against Left Front workers and no favouritism to a particular political party in holding meetings and rallies.
The rallies were led by Left leaders Biman Bose, MD Salim and Surjya Kant Mishra. Some protestors were also injured after the police started lathicharging.
