Thiruvananthapuram: Slamming the opposition LDF for refraining from voting on the Appropriation (Vote on Account) Bill in the Assembly, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday said this proved the party had no faith in democracy.
"After demanding a vote on the floor of the House, the Opposition refrained from voting. They went to meet the Governor to complain against the government in order to cover up this shameless act," he told reporters in Thiruvananthapuram.
Chandy said the ruling front had the necessary number in the House when the vote was called for. He denied the Opposition charge that Finance Minister KM Mani had deliberately prolonged his speech to buy time for more UDF members to reach the House.
"He spoke well within the time allotted to him," Chandy said.
"When we were part of the Opposition, we had also gone to the Governor raising several demands, but not for a shameless one like this," Chandy said.
