The Tamil Nadu CM was hospitalised following high fever.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals on May 3 following high fever, was discharged on Saturday.

Karunanidhi was decharged a few hours after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visited him.

Singh, who flew down from Delhi this afternoon, visited Karunanidhi at the special ward around 1600 hrs IST and after a team of doctors examined him late in the evening the Chief Minister was discharged around 2200 hrs IST.

After his admission on May 3, Karunanidhi remained in the Intensive Care Unit for a couple of days, before he was shifted to a special ward.

The DMK leader, who could not take up campaigning for the May 13 Lok Sabha polls, would now share dais with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Sonia is arriving in Chennai on Sunday evening to address a joint rally with Karunanidhi at the island grounds.

The Chief Minister was to address a rally with Ms Gandhi on May 6, but doctors advised him rest for a few more days, after which Sonia postponed her visit to the city.

Karunanidhi, because of his poor health, had worked out a short campaign schedule, planning to address poll meetings in Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Mettupalayam, Coimbatore and Chennai, but had to cancel the campaigns after addressing the first one in Tiruchirapalli on May 1.

After exposing himself to the huge crowd and interacting with party functionaries for long hours, post-Tiruchirapalli meeting, he had developed infection and high fever.
