Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister DV Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday took oath as member of the state Legislative Council, a week after he won the council by-poll.
The Upper House Chairman DH Shanaramurthy administered the oath of office to Gowda.
Later, speaking to reporters after becoming a member of the Upper House, the first by a Chief Minister of the state, Gowda said he would leave for Delhi today, hold a meeting of Karnataka MPs tomorrow and then submit his resignation from the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha seat.
He said he would also consult the BJP high command on the ministry expansion to fill up seven vacancies.
Gowda's win in last week's by-poll ensured he fulfilled the Constitutional requirement to get elected to the state legislature within six months of becoming Chief Minister.
Gowda, a Lok Sabha member, was sworn in Chief Minister in August after BS Yeddyurappa was asked by the BJP Central leadership to quit over his indictment in the Lokayukta report on illegal mining.
