New Delhi: The Speaker of the J&K Assembly on Wednesday accepted the privilege motion against PDP leader Muzaffar Beig, moved by the National Conference (NC), for his allegations that J-K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was involved in a sex scandal.
The allegations led to major drama in J-K Assembly on Tuesday following which the CM tendered his resignation to the Governor. The Governor, however, refused to accept Omar’s resignation.
Omar gave the Wednesday Assembly session a miss.
“We are not going to be intimated by their terror tactics. I am prepared to go to jail. Today, he (Omar) is ashamed of facing the Assembly. If he is proved guilty, he will go to jail. I have maintained that he is not chargesheeted in the ‘shame list,” he said.
Meanwhile, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti said, " The High Court observed in its order that ever since names of prominent people figured in the list, CBI started dragging its feet. It's not just Omar Abdullah whose name is there in the list, there are many others whose name figures in it and they've all been enjoying a new lease of life because someone has been exerting pressure on CBI from up, I don't know that someone, whosoever it is."
On Tuesday night, within hours of Omar’s announcement of resignation, the Beig backtracked on its allegations, saying Omar was not “an accused in sex scandal” and his party was “ready to leave the matter behind”.
