Greater Noida: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh on Monday criticised the Centre over the ordinance making amendments to the land acquisition act.
Addressing a Mahapachayat at Gharbara village, Ramesh said the erstwhile UPA government had formulated pro-farmer land policy after consultations with all political parties including BJP and suggestions given by it were also incorporated in the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
"Now the Modi government has issued ordinance amending the land acquisition act, according to which farmers consent will not be necessary for certain acquisitions and has also included other anti-farmer provisions," Ramesh said.
Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Dhirendra Singh and senior party leader Virendra Dhada were present at the Mahapanchayat among others.
