Dehradun: In what could trouble any possible Congress-SP tie-up for the five Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand, both the parties are claiming to contest from the prestigious Haridwar constituency.
As the Congress puts forth its stake for all the five seats in the state, the Samajwadi Party, which represents the Haridwar constituency in the present Lok Sabha is ready to field its top candidate for the seat.
In case a national alliance is formulated, congress will definitely leave this seat for us," said a confident Ambrish kumar, the president of Uttarakhand SP unit. Our central leadership also wants Congress to leave Haridwar seat for his party in case any alliance is reached at national level, Kumar said.
Uttarakhand Congress on the other hand is not in favour of any tie-up with SP saying any such alliance would be suicidal for itself especially in the hilly region.
The Congress leaders of the state unit alleged that atrocities on the statehood activists during the former Mulayam Singh Yadav regime would come back to haunt the party. Moreover, BJP would exploit the situation at the hustings, they contended. "We are against any tie-up with Samajwadi party for Haridwar seat," said Congress spokesman Surya Kant Dhasmana.
