New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha were adjourned for the day on Monday after uproar over various issues, including Gujarat Lokayukta appointment. Following uproar over the Gujarat Lokayukta issue, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned earlier on Monday till noon.
The BJP had earlier called the appointment unconstitutional.
The party has been demanding the recall of Gujarat Governor Kamala Beniwal.
Last week, BJP members rushed into the well shouting slogans demanding recall of Governor Kamala Beniwal.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had also hit out at the Centre on the appointment of the Lokayukta by the Governor. Modi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking the recall of the Governor Dr Kamla Beniwal and demanded that the Lokayukta be annulled.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat High Court has taken on record correspondence between the Gujarat government and the Governor on the appointment of the Lokayukta between 2006 and 2010. The petitioners seek contempt of court proceedings against Narendra Modi for writing to the Prime Minister against the Lokayukta's appointment. The matter has been adjourned till September 7.
The Modi government has accused Beniwal of unilaterally notifying the appointment of retired Justice RA Mehta as Lokayukta without consulting the government.
