Bhopal: As the political fraternity mourns the demise of former Madhya Pradesh governor Ram Naresh Yadav, his death closes another chapter of Vyapam scam – one of the country’s biggest admission and recruitment scams, which, among others, featured Yadav, his son Shailesh and OSD Dhanraj Yadav.
Yadav (89), who had served as Uttar Pradesh chief minister from 1977-79, had hit headlines after the Special Task Force (STF) probing the Vyapam scam lodged an FIR against him on February 24, 2016 in connection with the Forest Guard Recruitment, 2014.
He was the first Madhya Pradesh governor to have faced any FIR while in office.
However, a matchless political survivor who braved several political storms successfully in his illustrious career, he did it again and successfully sought constitutional immunity from the Madhya Pradesh high court against the STF action. He mostly remained bed-ridden before finally completing his term at Raj Bhawan and left to Lucknow in September where he breathed his last at PGI.
Yadav was accused by Vyapam investigators of recommending some candidates in Forest Guard Recruitment Test, 2014.
Besides, Yadav’s Officer on Special Duty, Dhanraj Yadav, a controversial bureaucrat from Uttar Pradesh, was earlier landed in STF net in 2014 in connection to his role in forged Police Constable Recruitment Test-2012.
Yadav allegedly misused his official position and referred many candidates for recruitment as police constable to then Vyapam Exam Controller Dr Pankaj Trivedi and Chief System Analyst, Nitin Mahindra.
Governor’s son Shailesh who was engaged in business in UP, too, had found himself on STF radar over his alleged complicity in the Vyapam scam. Shailesh was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his Lucknow home in March 2015.
Veerpal Singh, an accused in the Vyapam scam arrested in November 2014, had alleged that Rs 3 lakh cash was given to Shailesh in the Raj Bhavan to make sure that 10 candidates from Bhind cleared the examination for contractual teachers. Ultimately none of the candidates were eventually appointed because they did not have either a diploma or a degree in education.
Yadav had served as Madhya Pradesh governor from August 26, 2011 to September 7, 2016.
