New Delhi: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said that agricultural land bought by her in Haryana's Faridabad district had no links to the finances of her husband Robert Vadra’s Skylight Hospitality or the DLF.
A statement from Priyanka’s office came after Robert Vadra was asked by reporters whether a portion of the money he had received from the DLF was used by his wife to buy properties in Faridabad.
The statement said the land was resold to the original owner four years later on February 17, 2010 for Rs 80 lakh, the then prevailing market price. The money was accepted through cheque. The earlier owner was made the offer to allow him exercise the right of first refusal, PTI reported.
"The source of funds for this or any other property acquired by Priyanka has no relationship whatsoever with Robert Vadra's finances and/or Skylight Hospitality and no relationship whatsoever with (realty firm) DLF," the statement said.
It added that any insinuations made about the land deal were "false, baseless and defamatory" and represented "a deliberate, politically motivated and malicious campaign to besmirch and destroy her reputation".
Reacting to Priyanka’s statement, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao told CNN-News18, “Her statement shows that the family feels very embarrassed by the nature of findings of the Justice Dhingra report which has not been made public yet."
Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said: “The fact that there has been no concrete evidence presented shows that there is nothing in the case. No evidence has found in cases reported from Rajasthan and Haryana."
