'Exploring Legal Options...': PM Modi Dials BJP's Krishnanagar Candidate Amrita Roy Over Money Attached By ED In Bengal
He said while the BJP is committed towards eliminating corruption from the nation, the corrupt persons are coming together to save each other

In a phone call with BJP’s Krishnanagar candidate, Rajmata Amrita Roy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he is working to ensure that the money attached by the Enforcement Directorate in West Bengal goes to the looted and poor people of the state.

He said while the BJP is committed towards eliminating corruption from the nation, the corrupt persons are coming together to save each other. The prime minister expressed confidence in the people of the state saying that will vote for ‘Parivartan‘ (change).

Notably, Roy is opposing TMC candidate Mahua Moitra in Krishnanagar.

This comes a day after PM Modi dialled BJP’s Basirhat candidate Rekha Patra, who is also one of the Sandeshkhali victims. He spoke to her about campaign preparations and also called her ‘Shakti Swaroopa’.

During their conversation, Patra told the prime minister that the situation in Sandeshkhali wouldn’t have prevailed if they were allowed to vote freely.

The BJP Lok Sabha candidate further stressed “no enmity” towards some TMC women supporters who were “against” her candidature.

The saffron camp released its list of 19 candidates in West Bengal on Sunday, fielding Rekha Patra from the high-stakes Basirhat seat and ‘Rajmata’ Amrita Roy from Krishnanagar, as a challenger to Moitra.

West Bengal, infamous for poll-related violence will see voting in all seven phases of the general elections — April 19, 26, May 7, 13, 20, 25 and June 1.

The 2019 elections, despite taking place in seven phases and with the presence of a good number of central forces, did not go violence-free. The West Bengal Assembly elections in 2021 were held in eight phases. However, the state witnessed a series of clashes and incidents of political violence.

The Election Commission has deployed 920 companies of the Central police forces for the upcoming general elections in the state.
