DMDK, PWF join hands to contest Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, Vijayakanth to be the CM candidate
DMDK president Vijayakanth will be projected as the chief ministerial candidate of the front.

In a major development ahead of Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) on Wednesday formally entered into an electoral alliance with the People's Welfare Front constituting the two Left parties, MDMK and VCK.

An official statement said the DMDK will contest 124 seats and the rest will go to the other parties. DMDK president Vijayakanth will be projected as the chief ministerial candidate of the front.

MDMK’s Vaiko had been pursuing alliance talks with Vijaykanth for over a month. People's Welfare Front consists of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Left parties.

Vijaykanth had earlier announced that his party would contest the polls on his own. DMDK mouthpiece Captain TV announced that DMDK will contest 124 seats while 110 seats will be contested by other constituents of the PWF.

In 2011 elections, DMDK contested in 41 constituencies as part of an AIADMK alliance and won about 29 seats and became the opposition party in the Tamil Nadu assembly.
