In a veiled attack on the BJP, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday claimed that the opposition might conspire against him forcing him to spend five months in jail but, the JMM leader asserted, he knows how to fight back and work for the state.
Soren, who is out on bail in a money laundering case, was addressing a programme here, where 1,500 post-graduate teachers were given appointment letters.
“The way our opposition weave conspiracy, we Jharkhandi tribal people are sometimes trapped into it. The result of which was I got the chance to experience jail for five months,” Soren said.
Referring to the proverb ‘Jako Rakhe Saiyan Maar Sake Na Koi’ (None can harm the person whom God protects), he said, “How much conspiracy will they hatch? We are not afraid of this. We know how to get our work done and fight them.” Soren had resigned as the chief minister before his arrest on January 31 by the ED in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam. After spending around five months in prison, he secured bail and became the CM again on July 4.
While granting him bail, the Jharkhand High Court has held that prima facie he is not guilty of the offence and there is no likelihood that he would commit an offence when on bail.
“They are disturbed after the court’s observation. Their nature is such that they will continue to hatch conspiracy,” he said without naming anyone.
Soren said that after his party came to power in December 2019, Covid-19 appeared as a big challenge.
“We dealt with the challenge efficiently. Things started getting normal within two years. But then, our opposition started hatching conspiracies to stop us from doing our work through various ways including using different agencies. We did not stop as we had to reach our goal,” Soren said.
Attacking the BJP-led central government, Soren claimed that the unemployment rate is high in the country. “Airports, ports, and rails are being sold. The small-scale industries that were shut during the Covid pandemic still could not be reopened due to the policies of the Centre,” he said.
Soren said that his government is continuously working to generate employment.
He claimed that over 60,000 youths have been provided jobs in various organized and unorganized sectors.
