Delhi elections: BJP has the edge in RK Puram but AAP fighting hard
Out of 1.57 lakh voters, there are nearly 65 per cent government employees and are believed to be BJP's vote bank.

New Delhi: With the Congress completely marginalised in almost every constituency of Delhi the fight now between Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party. The South Delhi constituency on Rama Krishna Puram (RK Puram) is no different with BJP's sitting MLA Anil Sharma and AAP's Pramila Tokas engaged in a fierce battle.

Out of 1.57 lakh voters, there are nearly 65 per cent government employees and are believed to be BJP's vote bank. Another 25 per cent voters are in slum clusters and are inclined towards AAP. People from Uttarakhand, too, have a strong presence and the community has 12,000 voters.

There are four villages in RK Puram - Munirka, Mohammad Pur, Moti Bagh and Vasant. The first two has Jat voters but they are not committed to any one party.

Even the BJP is not unaware to the fact that it is not strong in certain areas and it will be a tough fight between BJP and AAP. While addressing a public meeting in Vasant Kunj, BJP's Anil Sharma said, "I cannot win in certain areas even if I try hard."

In slum clusters like Nehru Ekta colony, AAP is the clear favourite. "We will vote for AAP and this is being told to us," says Bimla, a resident of Nehru Ekta Colony in Sector 7.

A government employee also reveals that many employees will vote for AAP as the price of essential commodities is increasing. "Government employees iss baar jhaadu chalaenge (government employees will also vote for AAP). Whatever PM Narendra Modi promised during Lok Sabha elections, he has been unable to fulfil it. As far as Kiran Bedi is concerned, she has dictatorship attitude," said a CPWD electrician.

In posh colonies of the constituency, residents are backing BJP and want to see Kiran Bedi as their chief minister.

"The fight will be seen between BJP and AAP. When Arvind Kejriwal became chief minister, he left the government and ran after PM's chair. During his 49-day stint, he just did dharna," said Harwant Singh Dhillon.

The Congress has fielded Leeladhar Bhatt, a face from Uttarakhand. In last two elections, the party had fielded Barkha Singh.

In 2013 polls, former AAP member Shazia Ilmi lost elections to BJP by just 300 votes but now she is with the BJP.
