Cong's Sanjay Nirpuam Miffed Over MVA Seat-sharing Deal, Calls Uddhav Sena Candidate 'Khichdi Chor'
Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam objected to Shiv Sena (UBT) announcing its candidates on 4 seats in Mumbai and "leaving one seat for Congress as charity"

Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam slammed Shiv Sena (UBT) after the party on Wednesday declared all its 17 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. Sanjay Nirupam objected to Shiv Sena (UBT) announcing its candidates on 4 seats in Mumbai and “leaving one seat for Congress as charity”. He further said Uddhav Thackeray’s Sena deliberately fielded “khichdi chor” candidate from a seat where he was presenting a strong candidature.

“Today, Shiv Sena (UBT) announced its candidates on 4 seats of Mumbai…They have left one seat for Congress as charity. I oppose this decision. I also oppose Shiv Sena (UBT) and condemn the Congress leadership that held negotiations with Shiv Sena,” the Congress leader said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) — which is a part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the state — fielded Arvind Sawant from South Mumbai, Amol Kirtikar from Mumbai North-West, Sanjay Patil from Mumbai North-East and Anil Desai from Mumbai South-Central.

Opposing the candidature of Amol Kirtikar from Mumbai North-West, who is the son of sitting MP MP Gajanan Kirtikar, the Congress leader said he would not campaign for the “khichdi chor” candidate.

“The candidate fielded by Shiv Sena (UBT) in North West Mumbai has corruption allegations him…I will not campaign for such ‘Khichdi Chor’ candidate,” he said.

“The candidate that Shiv Sena has fielded from northwest Mumbai – where I was presenting a strong candidature – took bribes from the contractor in COVID Khichdi scam. ED is probing it…Shiv Sena is deliberately fielding such a ‘Khichdi chor’. This has hurt Congress cadres. I am upset too. I am sad that our negotiators didn’t present Congress party’s stand strongly…Shiv Sena (UBT) has attempted to suppress Congress,” Nirupam was quoted by ANI as saying.

Sanjay Nirupam went on to urge the Congress party to consider breaking their alliance with Shiv Sena (UBT) since the latter is trying to suppress the grand old party in Mumbai.
