Chennai: After making a vain bid to woo the Congress, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) General Secretary J Jayalalithaa on Thursday denied that she had invited the Congress to join the AIADMK alliance, while spelling doom for the Congress in the May 13 Lok Sabha elections for its decision to continue alliance with the DMK.
The AIADMK leader, in a statement here, said she had only cautioned the Congress not to get into the quicksand along with the DMK, which was facing the wrath of the people for its anti-people activities.
Considering the long - time friendship between the AIADMK and the Congress and with good intention, she had advised the Congress to come out of the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa said, adding, ''I never invited the Congress to come back to the AIADMK alliance.''
She said the people were very angry with the DMK government for the severe power crisis, price hike, fall in agriculture and industrial production, unemployment and deterioration of law and order.
The state, which remained a haven of peace, during her regime, become a shelter for terrorist and extremist forces and keeping this in mind, she had advised the Congress to severe its links with the DMK.
But much to the surprise of the people, Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad, after meeting DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, had said the Congress and the DMK shared common view on many issues.
Pointing out that the country was reeling under severe power crisis, skyrocketing of prices, deterioration of law and order and there was a large scale corruption in the country, Jayalalithaa said Azad would have probably meant that the two parties shared common view in swindling the nation.
''That is why, the Congress is not willing to leave the DMK and vice versa," she said.
