Congress Leader Veerappa Moily Faces Plagiarism Charges, 'The Hindu' Pulls Back Article
Former Karnataka chief minister and Congress MP M Veerappa Moliy is facing serious charges of plagiarism.

New Delhi: After former Delhi law minister Jitendra Singh Tomar's 'fake' law degree trouble for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), it is plagiarism trouble for the Congress. Former Karnataka chief minister and Congress MP M Veerappa Moliy is facing serious charges of plagiarism.

According to a report in 'The News Minute', 'The Hindu' newspaper has officially withdrawn the article 'From welfare to paternalism' by Veerappa Moily, published in the newspaper on June 11, 2015, from the online edition as it is investigating charges of plagiarism against him. The article refers to the cutting down of social spending by the Indian government.

Under the sub-heading "Welfare to paternalism", several paragraphs were directly lifted from another op-ed article written by G Sampath, published on May 26, ironically, in 'The Hindu' itself. And this is not the only instance, as other sentences too seem to have been lifted, claims 'The News Minute'.

In an announcement The Hindu website says:

'The News Minute' website has published the paragraphs allegedly lifted by Moily. Even though honorary doctorates can't be used as a prefix by personalities who have been conferred with it, M Veerappa Moily has been using it for a long time. Mangalore University had conferred Moily with an honorary doctorate a few years ago. The former Union minister also received the prestigious Saraswati Samman award for literature this year.
