Cong takes a dig at Sidhu for assaulting guard
Navjot Singh Sidhu allegedly assaulted a security guard at a toll gate in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district.

New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday took a dig at the BJP MP and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, who assaulted a security guard at a toll gate in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district, saying elected representatives should not take law into their hands.

"I don't think that elected legislators or parliamentarians who are supposed to be law makers should really be taking law into their own hands," Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said.

"Considering that the Akali Dal-BJP government in Punjab is everyday getting into a scuffle from school teachers to unemployed health workers, it is not surprising that this whole tendency has become infectious and has extended itself right to the honourable member of parliament representing the city of Amritsar. However, whatever has happened is extremely reprehensible," Tewari added.

Sidhu assaulted a security guard at the toll gate after the latter threw his stick at his car damaging the windshield.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening when Sidhu's car did not stop despite being asked to do so by guard P Chenchuramaiah at Swarna toll gate near Sulurpet in Nellore district, 550 km from Hyderabad.

Police said they have not registered a case as the matter was solved amicably.
