Dehra Dun: Congress has suspended a party leader for six years in connection with an attack on its official candidate Manish Tiwari who is contesting from Gadarpur assembly seat. Rajendra Pal Singh has been suspended for six years from the party after a preliminary inquiry showed his alleged involvement in the attack on Tiwari, said state party spokesman Surendra Kumar. However, a detailed investigation into the incident is on and further action would be taken on that basis only, he added.

Singh, along with his supporters, had allegedly attacked Tiwari after he was not given a ticket from Gadarpur. The incident took place on Wednesday when Tiwari was going to take the nomination form in Gadarpur area and some people attacked him with iron rods in which his car was also damaged. Later, Tiwari also lodged a complaint with the police.

Tiwari is the nephew of veteran Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister N D Tiwari.
