Kolkata: West Bengal Pradesh Congress President Pradip Bhattacharya Sunday demanded a CBI probe into the killing of a Congress worker and alleged that party activists were under attack from both the Marxists and the Trinamool Congress in the state.
"A Congress worker was killed Saturday night. We condemn this. We demand CBI probe into the killing. The Congress workers are being attacked by both CPI-M and Trinamool in the state," Bhattacharya said, addressing a media conference.
A Congress worker was killed Saturday night by unidentified goons in Basirhat area of North 24 Parganas district.
Bhattacharya appealed to the state administration to act impartially.
He stressed that the party should prepare itself for the upcoming Panchayat or village council polls in the state.
"The party supporters should start preparing themselves for the Panchayat polls. We don't know whether there will be an alliance or not, but the party will be there so we have to start our preparation from now on," he added.
