CK Jaffer Sharief has been one of the most famous Muslim faces of the Congress and won 8 Lok Sabha elections between 1971 and 2004.

Bangalore: Two high profile Congress leaders from Karnataka are likely to quit the party this week. Senior Congress leader and former Railways minister CK Jaffer Sharief and former MP and celebrated IPS officer HT Sangliana are likely to join the JDS in protest over not being given Lok Sabha ticket this time.

According to JDS top leadership, both of them will most likely contest on JDS ticket. CK Jaffer Sharief has been one of the most famous Muslim faces of the Congress and won 8 Lok Sabha elections between 1971 and 2004.

He was a minister in the Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and PV Narasimharao governments. Ironically, for the first time he lost a Lok Sabha election in 2004 to HT Sangliana, who is also quitting the party with him now. In 2004, Sangliana won the BJP ticket and joined the Congress in 2009. He lost from Bangalore Central in 2009.
