Patna: Controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin, who is out of jail on bail after 11 years, said he is not a don but the media had made him one.
In an interview to CNN-News18, he blamed the government for his troubles. Flatly denying charges against him, he said, "I am a victim of the government system. I am not a don."
Continuing his blistering attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, he said that circumstances made him the chief minister and he would stick to that statement. "The statements I am making are mine. It has nothing to do with Lalu Prasad Yadav. I am here to protect the interest of secular front," Shahabuddin said.
He also launched an attack on the media calling it highly biased against him.
Commenting on his relationship with Lalu's son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav, Shahabuddin said, "If situation arises I may accept the leadership of Tejaswi Yadav. He has evolved as a natural leader."
Reacting to the allegations of his connection to another local gangster Mohammed Kaif, he said, "He has more pictures with the District Magistrate of Siwan than with me, but nobody is showing that."
Meanwhile, Asha Ranjan, wife of slain Siwan based journalist Rajdeo Ranjan has approached the Supreme Court seeking registration of an FIR against Shahbuddin and Bihar Health Minister Tej Pratap Yadav for the murder her husband.
Shahabuddin was released on bail from Bhagalpur jail on September 10 was spotted with a dreaded sharp shooter who is wanted for the murder of Rajdeo Ranjan. In the photo, shooter named Mohammad Kaif alias Bunty is shown accompanying Shahabuddin during his journey from Bhagalpur to Siwan after his release from the jail.
