New Delhi: Suspended Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt has approached the President on the 2002 post-Godhra riots probe. In a letter to President Pratibha Patil, Bhatt has sought probe against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Bhatt has sought that the Centre appoints a two-member commission to probe the role and conduct of Modi and his Cabinet, officials, police officers in the Godhra incident and the subsequent riots.
He has also sought investigation into the government's measures on the rehabilitation for victims.
Earlier, Sanjiv Bhatt had demanded that the Nanavati Commission, which is probing the 2002 Gujarat riots, summon Chief Minister Narendra Modi on the basis of allegations made by late Amarsinh Chaudhary, former Gujarat Chief Minister.
Bhatt sent a letter to the Commission along with a copy of Chaudhary's affidavit. The letter said "the affidavit clearly delineates the deliberate inaction on the part of Chief Minister Narendra Modi during the Gujarat carnage of 2002 in general and the Gulburg Society massacre in particular."
The IPS officer had filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court in 2011 alleging Modi had asked top police officials to allow Hindus to vent their anger after the Godhra train fire incident.
Bhatt has since long been demanding examination of Modi by the Nanavati Commission.
