Guwahati: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi says he is surprised by the resignation of some Congress MLAs including a minister in his government on Monday.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and 31 other Congress MLAs on Monday resigned even after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi extended his support to the beleagured Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and asked him to keep the rebel MLAs, who want him removed, under control.

Speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN, Gogoi said that he had invited Sarma for discussion and he agreed to find out the solution. "Biswa went to the governor with 27 MLA yesterday and met with me and discussed issues," he said while reacting to the ongoing crisis in Assam Congress.

Sarma with the support of 55 ministers and MLAs have openly demanded change in the CLP leadership. Rest of the 79 Congress MLAs and ministers are stated to be Gogoi loyalists.
