Shami’s mother complained of dizziness majorly because of anxiety on the day of the tournament final as India took on Australia in the summit clash.

Team India, who went into the championship clash against the Australians, were on a hot 11-match winning streak at the ICC showpiece, before ultimately falling to the men from down under in the summit clash.

Put to bat first by Aussie skipper Pat Cummins, India managed to put up 240 runs on the board thanks to contributions from veteran players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.

Skipper Rohit gave India an electric start with his 31-ball 47-run knock, before the winner of the Player of the Tournament award, Kohli, chipped in with a half-century as he made 55 runs off the 63 deliveries he faced.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rahul added 66 runs off 107 deliveries to take India to the 240-run mark.

Things started on a positive note for the men in blue as Shami struck early to dismiss the dangerous David Warner in the second over of the chase to help India make early inroads.

Jasprit Bumrah lifted Indian spirits further as he dismissed Steve Smith and Mitchell Marsh as Australia were reeling at 47 for the loss of three wickets in the seventh over.

However, Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the innings for the men from down under as they put up a 192-run stand to take the game away from the hosts.

Shami, who ended the tournament with 24 wickets to his name finished ahead of every other bowler in terms of wickets having played significantly fewer matches than any of his closest competitors.

The win meant that the Aussies clinched their sixth ICC ODI World Cup title and their fifth in the last seven editions of the 50-over format.
