'Virat Kohli Relishes Pressure and Does not Want Easy Runs': Batting Legend Praises Batting Superstar After World Cup Heroics
Virat Kohli started his ODI World Cup with a fighting half-century but fell short of a century by 15 runs in Chennai.

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar praised Virat Kohli for his heroic innings to help India seal a win against Australia in Chennai at the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 203. India played their opening game of the tournament against the Aussies on October 8.

During the second innings, India went off track as three of the players were dismissed for ducks. Kohli then stepped up for the Men in Blue delivering 85 runs for his side at the hour of need.

While speaking to India Today,  Gavaskar said, “He relishes pressure and does not want easy runs.”

Gavaskar also mentioned that he was a bit taken aback to see Kohli depart because he believed that the batter is one of the players who knows how to peel off a century. “I’m actually surprised that he got out at 85 because if there’s one batter who knows how to get a hundred, it’s Kohli”, he said.

Gavaskar also felt that India coming back from such a dire situation against Australia in the World Cup is a huge statement.

He believes that most teams should watch out for the Men in Blue as they can make a comeback from any situation. “What India has shown is that they can recover even with backs on their wall. So other teams will have to watch out”, he said.

Gavaskar also praised Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul for his superb innings.

He believes that Rahul can act as the anchor to keep India innings stable going forward.

“The way he’s batting right now really augers well for India. You have someone coming in at number 5 who can hold the innings together,” he concluded.

India’s opening game of the World Cup saw spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have impressive outings as they combined for five wickets.

Their performances helped India curb the Aussies at a score of 199.

Kohli and Rahul then joined forces to lead recover from 2/3 and India went on to win by six wickets.
