Good news for Instagram users who want to delete their Threads account. Threads, a micro-blogging platform by Meta, will soon enable users to delete their Threads account without affecting their Instagram account. To recall, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg earlier this year launched this new social media app to compete with Elon Musk-owned microblogging platform Twitter (Now X).

The most criticised feature the Meta’s new social media platform was its account deletion policy. The company integrated Threads with Instagram, which previously required users to delete their Instagram accounts when deleting their Threads accounts. To put it in simple words, if you delete your Threads ID, your Instagram profile will be deleted automatically.

However, according to a recent report, Meta’s Chief Privacy Officer (Product), Michel Protti, said at TechCrunch Disrupt that the platform is actively working on a feature that will enable users to delete their Threads account independently without impacting their Instagram account. The company might release a separate account deletion feature for Threads by December.

It is worth noting that Michel Protti didn’t mention if the feature will be limited to Android or iOS apps, or also be extended to the desktop version. He also said that the task of making this feature is extremely challenging. For now, users can deactivate their Threads account and hide their content without affecting Instagram. They can also mute their Threads account to stop receiving notifications.

Protti also added that the Meta is working on integrating Threads with the fediverse, which is an interconnected network of independent servers designed to communicate with each other.

Another report recently hinted that Threads may soon introduce an option to edit posts within 5 minutes of publishing them, matching its rival, X (formerly Twitter), which already allows post editing.

The social media giant recently launched news features such as streamlined Instagram Direct Message (DM) sharing, customisable alt-text for media files, and a new mention button to facilitate smoother interactions within Threads’ ecosystem
