Indian captain Rohit Sharma was in a joyous mood after seeing Virat Kohli smash his 50th ODI ton and later Shreyas Iyer scored his second hundred in World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue squared off against New Zealand in the semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday, and Rohit was in a hilarious mood as he imitated Iyer’s century celebration from within the dressing room. Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav were both left in splits watching the ‘Hitman’ copy Shreyas’ moves.
The incident took place in the 48th over when Iyer completed his hundred with a single against Tim Southee. Iyer smashed the fastest hundred by a player in the World Cup semifinal in just 67 balls, which is also the third fastest hundred overall by an Indian player, behind the likes of KL Rahul and Rohit.
After smashing his second consecutive hundred in as many games, and celebrated by soaking in a standing ovation from the home crowd. Having grown up in Mumbai, the 28-year-old received a special reception from the fans, and Rohit subsequently decided to imitate Iyer’s century celebration.

Riding on the blistering fast 47-run knock of Rohit, the half-centuries of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill as well as the hundreds from Iyer and Kohli, India were able to score 397/4 in their fifty overs.
It was a historic day for the Indian players who all had a day to remember, Rohit surpassed Chris Gayle’s record for most sixes in World Cup history, whereas Kohli surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s multiple records, becoming the first player in history to score 700 runs or more in the tournament.
Iyer and Rahul dominated the proceedings after Kohli departed, while Gill who had earlier left the field retired hurt did return to bat but Rahul was already firing on all cylinders in the death overs.
