The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted heavy rains in several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal over the next 48 hours due to the intensification of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal into a depression.
The depression over the Bay of Bengal may intensify into a deep depression and make landfall along the Odisha and West Bengal coasts on November 18 leading to heavy rainfall, the weather department said.
Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, IMD Director General, said the (climate) system is likely to initially move northwestwards, then north-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast on Thursday.
