Veteran opener Gautam Gambhir met Afghan paceman Naveen-ul-Haq on the sidelines of the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup match between India and Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. Gambhir, who is the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants, shared a great camaraderie with Naveen who also plays for the franchise in Indian Premier League. The duo was spotted together at Arun Jaitley Stadium as Gambhir also posted a photo on social media with the paceman.

Gambhir, who was part of the commentary team, posed with Naveen and wrote, “Great to see u @naveen_ul_haq! Until we meet again!”

Meanwhile, Naveen patched up with India batting maestro Virat Kohli during the high-octane clash. The duo was involved in a verbal battle during an Indian Premier League match last season.

Naveen faced the heat of Indian fans at Arun Jaitley Stadium as the spectators trolled him massively when he came out to bat and it happened again when he was bowling.

However, Kohli intervened and asked fans to stop booing and taunting Naveen. The gesture was well appreciated by Naveen as both players shook hands and hugged each other.

Gambhir, who was also involved in that spat during IPL, lauded Kohli’s act on the field. Speaking with sports presenter Jatin Sapru, the former said the cricketers should leave their fights on the field and should move on.

“Leave the fight there itself. Every player has the right to fight for his team, fight for respect, and fight to win. It doesn’t matter which country you belong to or how good of a player you are. There have been tussles in the past, but it’s important to leave the matter there itself and just move on,” Gambhir told Sapru.

“So, I hope they behave better in future. When foreign teams visit India, we should try and be a better host. It’s just that when they go back home, they must return with good memories irrespective of the team he is playing for,” Gambhir added.
