The Central Government on Wednesday informed the Delhi High Court that differently-abled candidates will not be provided reservation in four police services, including IPS, in the 2021 UPSC Civil Services Examination. People with disabilities have been excluded from the purview of the prescribed reservation this time.

The Central Government Personnel and Training Department announced that the differently-abled candidates appearing for the Indian Police Service, DANIPS (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Services), Puducherry Police Service and the Railway Protection Force have been exempted from the provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act.

This revelation came during the proceedings at the Delhi High Court regarding the petition filed by some disability rights organisations. The groups alleged seats have not been reserved for multi-disabled and visually impaired persons under the Rights of Disabilities Act 2016.

This August, the Central Government had issued a notification for entrance exams for all posts under the IPS, DANIPS, RPF and the PONDIPS. Apart from the aforementioned categories, posts for all sections of combat personnel have also been exempted from reservations for the differently-abled.
