'I've Spoken With Mahi Bhai': Rinku Singh Reveals MS Dhoni's Advice Which Helped Him Flourish in Finisher's Role
Rinku Singh has managed to cement his place in India's T20I set-up in a very short period of time.

Flamboyant batter Rinku Singh revealed the advice he got from legendary India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni during their interaction in the Indian Premier League. Rinku has been one of the brightest prospects in Indian cricket as he has flourished in the role of finisher’s role in the T20I format. The southpaw has managed to cement his place in India’s T20I set-up in a very short period of time.

Rinku held his nerves on Thursday and scored an unbeaten 16 off 9 balls in the first T20I against Afghanistan to give able support to Shivam Dube in India’s successful 159-run chase.

Rinku recalled an advice from legendary MS Dhoni which helped him flourish in the finisher’s role.

“I have got a habit of batting at 6 and finishing games, I’m feeling very happy with this job. Enjoyed the cold conditions, it was tough while fielding though. I just try to talk to myself, batting at 6, I don’t have the chance to face too many balls or score too many runs, that’s the thing I keep telling myself. I’ve spoken with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni), he just told me to react according to the ball, keep your calm and I just do the same thing. I don’t think a lot while batting, just react to the ball,” Rinku told broadcasters after the match.

Meanwhile, Shivam Dube made a punchy return to India fold with a match-winning 60 off 40 balls against Afghanistan in the first T20I and credited the iconic MS Dhoni for the transformation in his attitude and approach.

Dube’s fifty headlined India’s facile six-wicket win on Thursday, and the knock also earned him the player of the match award.

“When I came to bat, I wanted to implement what I have learnt from MS Dhoni about finishing games. I keep speaking to Mahi bhai. He tells me about how to tackle different situations. He has given me two-three tips and rated my batting.

“So, I feel if he rates my batting then I’ll keep playing well. My confidence went up because of that,” Dube told ‘JIO Cinema’.
