Indians Troll Wrong Adam Zampa on Instagram After India's Defeat to Australia in World Cup
Trolls from India attacked Adam Zampa on his Instagram account. The problem? They went after an account who they assumed was the Australian spinner.

Team India’s ICC World Cup 2023 campaign came to a cruel conclusion after an unbeaten Rohit Sharma’s XI raced to the final only to be handed a convincing 6-wicket defeat by Australia in the crucial face-off in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Visuals of Indian cricketers tearing up were shown on television, some had their faces buried behind their palms. The disappointment that India came so close to lifting their third World Cup trophy was felt all across and wasn’t just limited to our cricketing heroes. Millions of desi cricket fans who had backed the Men in Blue throughout the tournament had to deal with the heartache of India’s loss.

However, Australia’s triumph and their sixth ODI World Cup win also unfortunately invited trolls from India who rushed to the social media accounts of some Aussie cricketers to leave unpleasant and nasty comments. After confusing New Zealander Jimmy Neesham for Australian cricketer and giving him a mouthful on his Instagram DMs, Glenn Maxwell’s India-origin wife Vini Raman next became the target of online attack.

The trolling did not stop at that. The angered “fans” then headed to Aussie spinner Adam Zampa’s Instagram account and the usual followed.

“Zampa ne gill ko out krke apni aukat dikha di,” read one comment.

“Ch***** h kya zampeeee,” wrote another.

But there was a slight issue.

In a fit of rage, the trolls went after an Adam Zampa who had nothing to do with cricket. This Zampa, according to their social bio, is a ski racer and a pilot from Slovakia.

“Here for the comments who do not know that he’s not the Australian cricketer,” a few quickly realised the embarrassing goof-up but it was too little too late.

The Aussie spinner who picked the sole wicket of Jasprit Bumrah in the final, pouched an easy catch of Indian opener Shubman Gill who tried to pull Mitchell Starc but did not get the elevation.

Recently, Maxwell’s India-origin wife responded to the hate she received online for supporting her husband who was part of the Australian squad that lifted the World Cup at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Taking to her Instagram account, Raman answered the haters stating that they should direct their outrage towards “more important world issues.”

“Can’t believe this needs to be said BUT you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more importantly the team your husband + father of your plays in #nobrainer.
