'IND Win by 70 Runs, Shami Woud Pick 7': New Anchors Blown Away With Mike Hesson's Crazy Prediction - WATCH
Mike Hesson had predicted a 70-run win for India with Shami bagging a 7-wicket haul and centuries for Kohli and Mitchell.

Virat Kohli scored his 50th ODI hundred, India posted a mammoth total of 397, Daryl Mitchell got a hundred, Mohammad Shami picked up seven wickets and India won the game by 70 runs. This is what transpired in the high-voltage ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final in Mumbai, earlier this week. But the fans were taken aback when they came across a video on Sky Sports NZ in which former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson could be seen making exact predictions about the game which saw the Black Caps getting knocked out.

Speaking with Sky Sports NZ, Hesson predicted a 70-run win for India with Shami bagging a 7-wicket haul and centuries for Kohli and Mitchell.

In the segment called Hess’ Gueses, the former New Zealand coach said, “India is a pretty strong side so they’ll probably win by 70 runs. We could get to see something special from someone like Virat Kohli. He will be going to get his 50th hundred, it could be the night.

“New Zealand might chase a big score and I guess, Mohammad Shami may get seven [wickets] tonight. Probably Daryl Mitchell could be the highlight of New Zealand innings," he added.

The predictions were so accurate that the presenters of the show were left stunned.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Kohli added more lustre to his larger-than-life persona with a historic 50th ODI century that extended India’s bullish World Cup run to the title clash even as New Zealand threatened to spoil the home team’s party with a lion-hearted fight.

The semifinal tilted heavily in India’s favour after Rohit Sharma’s team put on board a massive 397 for four, bulldozing the Kiwi attack but before the hosts romped home by 70 runs for an unprecedented 10th win in a row, New Zealand did cause considerable anxiety in home team’s camp.

It was Daryl Mitchell’s valiant 134 off 119 balls that had the Indian hearts racing as the equation became a gettable 112 from 54 balls with six wickets in hand but Kuldeep Yadav delivered under pressure a price-less two-run 42nd over that released the pressure.

Pacer Mohammed Shami, who had scalped top four Kiwi batters earlier, then sealed the fate of the Kiwis by ending Mitchell’s belligerent knock and ended up with a gold-standard seven-wicket haul.
