‘I Filmed Protest… Why No Discussion on MPs’ Suspension’: Rahul Gandhi's 1st Reaction on Mimicry Row
A huge political row broke out after Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee derisively mimicked Dhankhar during the opposition's protest on the stairs of Parliament on Tuesday against the suspension of MPs, drawing strong condemnation from the ruling BJP

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is under fire for filming Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee’s mimicry of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, on Wednesday said he shot the video of MPs sitting outside Parliament but asked why was there no discussion over MPs being “thrown out” of the House.

Banerjee’s derisively mimicry of Dhankhar during the opposition’s protest on the stairs of Parliament on Tuesday against the suspension of MPs has drawn strong condemnation from the ruling BJP. So far 143 opposition MPs have been suspended from the two Houses of Parliament during the winter session.

Asked about him making the video and claims that the vice president was insulted, the Wayanad MP said, “Who insulted and how? MPs were sitting there, I took their video which remains on my phone.”

“Our 150 MPs have been thrown out and there is no discussion about that… There is no discussion on that, there is no discussion on unemployment, our MPs are sad, sitting there, you are discussing that.”

PM Dials Dhankhar Over ‘Abject Theatrics’ of MPs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialled the Rajya Sabha Chairman today and expressed ‘great pain’ over the ‘abject theatrics’ of some lawmakers.

Taking to a post on social media site X, the VP wrote: “Received a telephone call from the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji. He expressed great pain over the abject theatrics of some Honourable MPs and that too in the sacred Parliament complex yesterday. He told me that he has been at the receiving end of such insults for twenty years and counting but the fact that it could happen to a Constitutional office like the Vice President of India and that too in the Parliament was unfortunate.”

Dhankhar said he told PM Modi that the antics of a few members won’t prevent him from performing his duty and “upholding the principles enshrined in the Constitution.”

“I am committed to those values from the bottom of my heart. None of the insults will make me change my path,” he added.
