French Open Men’s Singles Semi-finals 2020 HIGHLIGHTS: Novak Djokovic reaches a fifth Roland Garros final and a 27th Grand Slam final with a 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 4-6, 6-1 win over Stefanos Tsitsipas. He broke Tsitsipas thrice in the final set. Tsitsipas broke Djokovic in the end to take the fourth set 6-4 and we are going into the decider. Tsitsipas took the third set 7-5 after being a match point down. Djokovic took a two set-lead in the semi-final after taking the second set 6-2 against Tsitsipas. Djokovic took the first set against Tsitsipas 6-3 in under half an hour.
Nadal reached a 13th Roland Garros final with a 6-3, 6-3, 7-6(0) win over Diego Schwartzman. Schwartzman stretched Nadal a lot in that third set but the Spaniard was on top in the tiebreak and absolutely ran away with it. It was a tactical battle between the two and Nadal came out as the winner this time, avenging his Rome defeat.
Djokovic was cruising towards a straight sets win before Tsitsipas turned on the screws and cashed on a moment of nervousness from Djokovic to eventually stretch the game to five sets. Tsitsipas showed great character and the tennis was top notch but Djokovic showed the champion that he is and ran on with the fatigue that Tsitsipas felt in the final set and got to the final.
“It’s always a special moment to play and win here. To be in another Roland Garros final is special to me,” Nadal said after reaching yet another French Open final to stay on course for a 13th title in Paris. Even though Schwartzman tried to stretch him, Nadal was very much on top of his game and took it in straight sets. He would be happy to see the second semi-final going all the way and would be hoping to meet a fatigued Djokovic.
