Dhanteras, Diwali 2023: Planning to Visit These Markets for Festive Shopping? Check Delhi Traffic Advisory

Traffic snarls are likely in part of Delhi during Dhanteras and Diwali as a large number of people will head to markets. To deal with traffic congestion, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory for several parts of the city.

Major shopping centres like Chandni Chowk, Khari Baoli, Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, Sadar Bazar, Lajpat Nagar, Yusuf Sarai Market, Nehru Place, Greater Kailash, Tilak Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Kamala Nagar, Rajouri Garden and Saket J-Block, are likely to witness heavy footfall during the festival.

Affected Roads

Roads like Main Chandni Chowk, Netaji Subhash Marg, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg, Dariba Kalan, Kucha Mahajani, Lala Lajpath Rai Marg, Jail Road, Geeta Colony Pusta Road, Astha Kunj, Arya Samaj Road, Africa Avenue Road, and Bhagirath Palace are also likely to remain affected.

To avoid inconvenience, Delhi Police have advised the general public to utilise the services of public transport like buses, metro rail, and carpools.

Traffic in the national capital on Thursday was affected at several places as people thronged the markets ahead of Diwali, causing inconvenience to commuters.

According to the Delhi Traffic Police, they received around 15 calls related to the traffic issue on Thursday.

“Movement of traffic on San Martin Marg is affected due to a road cave-in near Jesus Mary Marg-San Martin Marg Red Light. Commuters are advised to plan their journey accordingly,” the traffic police wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Several commuters took to X complaining about the traffic in the city.

A user of the microblogging site said in a post that there was a traffic jam at the Radisson roundabout towards Jwala Heri Market and from the District Centre side. “Waiting for the last 30 minutes just to travel a one-kilometre stretch,” the post read.

Commuters also said there were traffic issues on Old Rohtak Road, roundabout of Mori Gate outside Tis Hazari courts, Khajuri to Yamuna Vihar, Rajghat to Wazirabad flyover and Ravi Das Marg at Kalkaji. South Delhi resident Snigdha Singh said that there was heavy traffic near Green Park and vehicles were crawling.
