Former India paceman Rudra Pratap Singh feels that Shardul Thakur was the best buy for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024 Auction as he opened options for the franchise to spend big money on other players. Shardul, who has played for CSK in past, was picked by the five-time champions for INR 4 crore after he was released by Kolkata Knight Riders. Thakur failed to shine at his last two franchises – KKR and Delhi Capitals but he had a good record while playing for three seasons with Chennai Super Kings in the past.
The former India pacer opined that CSK acquired Thakur for a good price considering his all-round ability.
“I feel Shardul Thakur because he is an Indian fast bowler with variations and gives a big option in batting. Considering that, the Chennai Super Kings got him at a very good price. I feel the Chennai Super Kings would have kept a little more money for Shardul,” said RP Singh on Jio Cinema.
CSK added six players to their side and splurged a whopping INR 14 crore to sign New Zealand allrounder Daryl Mitchell. Their next most expensive buy was uncapped Sameer Rizvi for INR 8.4 crore, who struck two centuries at the UPT20 League earlier this year. However, they managed to spend the big money on the two players because they managed to get Shardul at a bargain price as they were in search of a fast bowler in the auction.
RP also mentioned the same while calling Shardul the best for Chennai in the IPL 2024 auction.
“Chennai’s options increased when they bought Shardul at that price. They were able to save money, so they could shop for more players, and they could go after Rizvi for a longer time. According to me, Shardul Thakur was the best buy for Chennai,” RP Singh added.
