'What A Wonderful Day': James Gunn Shares Official Cast Photo From The Upcoming Superman: Legacy
James Gunn recently gathered the entire cast of Superman: Legacy for a table read in Atlanta studios and shared the first official cast photo.

Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took control of DC Studios, the superhero universe has undergone a remarkable transformation. All eyes are eagerly on the latest franchise developments. Their initial venture involves taking the iconic Man of Steel to newer heights with Superman: Legacy. Departing from Zack Snyder’s darker rendition, the upcoming movie will feature more traditional and vibrant Superman. While James has been tight lipped about the film’s details, he has only confirmed the star studded cast. Recently, the filmmaker gathered the entire team for a table read at Atlanta Studios, ahead of the production. To celebrate the occasion, the director shared the first official cast photo, which has left fans excited. Nicholas Hoult, set to play the iconic villain Lex Luthor, stole the spotlight with his shaved head, sparking even greater excitement among fans eagerly waiting to see the fresh take on the Man of Steel’s legacy.

The photo features David Corenswet, who is set to play the iconic superhero, Superman/Clark Kent, role. Corenswet was seen posing with his arm around the neck of Nicholas. Alongside them, Rachel Brosnahan will play journalist Lois Lane, who posed next to Isabela Mercad as the Hawkgirl, while Skyler Gisondo taking on the role of Jimmy Olsen. The cast also includes Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific and Nathan Fillon as Guy Gardner. Earlier, James had confirmed that House of Dragon star Milly Alcock will be making a cameo appearance as Supergirl, setting the stage for her future standalone movie.

Sharing the picture on Instagram, James Gunn wrote, “After the table read with the Superman cast. Eve, Mr Terrific, Superman/Clark, Otis, Lex, producer Peter Safran, Jimmy, Metamorpho, Lois, Hawkgirl, me, Guy, The Engineer all together for the first time. What a wonderful day.”

While David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan are the main leads in Superman: Legacy, earlier a DC fan shared concerns about multiple cameos on Threads app. Reacting to the post, James Gunn replied, “I call that ‘Cameo Porn’ and it has been one of the worst elements of recent superhero films. If a character is in film, they have to have a reason to be there story-wise. I don’t mind actual cameos – if it’s a glimpse or a moment, an Easter egg. What bothers me is when they mangle an elegant story by shoehorning characters in – they aren’t there because the story calls for it, but for some other reason.”

Superman: Legacy is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025.
